A little late for this trip report. Actually late for many trip reports. but, I guess better late then never. On March 21 we hiked the Huntersfield Loop. We usually do this hike the first week of April. But, this year everything is early. Hiked up to the top. Actually saw other hikers. A first on this great hike. We then hiked down the ridge line. Had to use microspikes on the top half of the mountain, as there was a small amount of snow that had just fallen, and hadn't melted yet. Had a great time.
Lean-to at the top of the mountain. Rarely used, but has one of the best views of any lean-to
Views from the lean-to
Views of of the Pisgah Range (Ashland Pinnacle, Richmond, Pisgah ... WHP, Blackheads)

Re: Huntersfield Loop
I just lead a club hike(Rip Van Winkle Hikers) on Wed 27th. There were 4 of us. Beautiful day with clear blue skies. We went from the snow plow turnaround on Huntersfield Rd up to the summit and back. About 4.5 miles, 4.5 hrs. The flat area of the trail was muddy and wet at times. Temp. at summit between 45-50. Great views. Relaxed at the Lean-to. A good hike to do when leaves are off. Regards.

Re: Huntersfield Loop
Just completed an out-and-back to Huntersfield from Rt 32C via Ashand Pinnacle. Trail was in good shape but would have been overgrown if not for the recent snowfall. The unmarked path ("Historic Trail) from the parking area to the Long Path junction was in good shape. Fresh bear tracks but no sightings. Also hit up Richmond afterward via bushwack so as to complete the 100ers in this range. Total miles for out and back was 7.8. Add 2.5 for Richmond.
