Notes About Hiking the Middle Mountain Trail

 TRAIL
The trail is 2.49 miles (one-way) or 4.98 miles (round-trip) when hiked East to West. Most hikers park one car at Alder Lake, and another car at the Beech Hill Road Parking Area. This works when you are hiking with 2 or more people and cars. Most hikers like to hike it from east-to-west. But, both directions are good.

 PARKING
There are basically two places to park: (1) Beech Hill Road; (2) Holiday-Berry Brook Road: BEECH HILL ROAD - There is limited spaces to here here. There is NO official DEC parking area. But, you can park on the grass near the DEC Registration Box. Not a popular place to park.

MARY SMITH HILL ROAD - There is enough room to park 4-5 vehicles. This is a DEC parking area. There are 3 primitive campsites on the northern side.

 OTHER INFORMATION
There is NO place along this hike to obtain water for hiking or camping. So, you need to bring water with you!

There is limited cell phone service in some parts of the region (as of 2023).

After the summit plateau, the trail will start to descend down the west side of the mountain at a mild drop in elevation. In this picture you will turn left and continue to descend.
